This year was my final FMP here at Global Academy. For this FMP I worked on our Student Station ‘Youths Choice’ and our news brand ‘The Loop’. The main premise was to enter Youths Choice for the awards however the project scope ended up being a lot wider once I conducted my research into the current state of what we wanted to enter. I then decided the scope needed to be extended to include training and demo posts for social media and a whole brand update for the Youths Choice On-Air brand.

Originally I was deciding between two projects to complete. With the support of my main subject teacher I decided that rendering Youths Choice for the awards was the best way to show my skills visually. The other idea I did have was supporting Youths Choice from a technical perspective from On-Air and Pre Recorded to The Loop and our Video platforms. We decided this would end up being very hard to document and I would probably end up missing a lot of detail as it comes to physically writing my weekly reflections and I wouldn’t have a finished final project to be able to submit and showcase.

Following the schedule first set out in my proposal I’m happy to say that I stuck to the schedule that I first came up with, I didn’t experience any long delays, overtime or outside work that I hadn’t predicted! – 3 Years of FMP experience certainly does come in handy!

For my first week, I was working on my Proposal, Pitch, Brief. I used the Radio Studio to record my Pitch, spent some time discussing the two projects that I mentioned before, speaking with Mark I of course decided on the option to enter Youths Choice for the Shine awards. I then completed my proposal, pitch and project brief. For this I mainly used my laptop and didn’t have any issues. For recording my pitch I used one of our radio studios here at global academy, again this was find and was completed with no issues that I needed to resolve.

My second and third weeks on the project were my research weeks. I specifically researched into the projects happening internally and Youths Choice that could be award-worthy, researching into the Shine Awards, identifying the categories and potential entries, and also researching into the mentioned intended award entries that didn’t quite make it to be award-worthy in my eyes and identifying areas for improvement.

My Forth week was my problem solving. I came across 4 main problems with my project and broke these down into a page for each issue. These issues were;

What to enter for the awards
For this section, I listed all the awards I wanted to enter and listed the possible options. I worked closely with the radio station management as well as focus groups to decide what entry we should make for each award

How to Improve the On-Air Image of Youths Choice
As part of my problem solving I had to mainly work out the ‘what’ and the ‘who’ I decided on updating all station production with a complete on-air rebrand and listed what this would include on the page. I worked out the who by choosing who would create this production and also who would voice the production.

How to Improve the Digital Image of Youths Choice
Here I decided on a new look for the digital image and decided on the scope of the project. This would include redoing around 20 thumbnails for YouTube videos currently released as well as going forward on all platforms

Working with other students and Setting Deadlines
Working with other students on a project like this brings risks that they aren’t able to complete to projects before a set date. Unfortunately, due to the scope of this project and the variety of awards being entered, I do need to work and rely on other students to complete this. My plan is to make sure that the students I include to do projects are reliable and I’ve worked with them before. I’ll also set realistic deadlines a week or two before I need the finished pieces. This will allow me to go back and ask for revisions or give extensions where needed.

My Fifth week was planning and production. This entailed how I was going to make the identified improvements in my research and problem-solving.
